RENEW COLLABORATION

TOURING THE EILEEN FISHER RENEW WAREHOUSE

/ IRVINGTON, NEW YORK

Carmen Gama explains the organized system for sorting incoming Renew clothing pieces. With shipments arriving daily, it requires a handful of employees to intake, inspect & catalogue each piece by hand.

Pitched by EILEEN FISHER copywriter, Alena Manzor, the collaboration culminates in a two-outfit giveaway on social media.

Upcycling pre-loved Renew garments, they transformed into six nykamping designs by avoiding (or embracing) holes, stains, & distressed areas.

Alena conducted an interview at the Suttons Bay studio, then wrote a beautiful blog post for the EILEEN FISHER Journal.

  • 98 COTTON
    2 SPANDEX

  • Four pairs of blue stretch denim jeans deconstructed into one haori jacket. Subway tile patchwork design. Contrasting white topstitching throughout.

  • 1OO SILK

  • Four silk trousers with stretched seams & staining to avoid – deconstructed then reconstructed in a patchwork grid. Mockneck, drop shoulder short sleeve.

  • 98 COTTON
    2 SPANDEX

  • Four pairs of ivory stretch denim jeans deconstructed into one haori jacket. Split seam pant legs transformed into sleeves with split seam cuffs. Contrasting beige topstitching throughout.

  • 98 COTTON
    2 SPANDEX

  • Ivory stretch denim remnants from the haori jacket were enough for a tote bag. Since the pant remnants had visible coffee & mud stains, the panels were splatter painted for added effect.

  • 1OO LINEN

  • Five linen pants with stretched seams & thigh distressing – deconstructed then reconstructed in a zero waste format. Rounding out the “rise” (crotch) apex created a bubble effect.

  • 1OO LINEN

  • Also called Japanese gardening pants, these wrap pants use ties to be size inclusive & adjustable for various bodies. Multiple pairs of grey linen EF pants went into the patchwork design. Four pockets for carrying all the things.

THE PROCESS

There’s so much beauty (& chaos) within the process of upcycling. Even just garment construction in general. Deconstructing EILEEN FISHER clothes requires extra time & problem solving than beginning with a rectangular textile.
